Iridium is a platinum group metal with atomic number 77. As might be expected from its position in the periodic table, iridium is stable to air and water and is not attacked by any acids, including aqua regia. Iridium is an ideal material for the tip of spark plugs and has been used to make a crucible for artificial crystals manufacturing.

Iridium is the most corrosion-resistant material known. It is used in special alloys and forms an alloy with osmium, which is used for pen tips and compass bearings. It was used in making the standard metre bar, which is an alloy of 90% platinum and 10% iridium. It is also used for the contacts in spark plugs because of its high melting point and low reactivity.

The plate arrived well packaged and protected. Buying metals in small quantities is always a little expensive but this plate was flat, square, and correct in dimension. The finish is unblemished and will work well for projects that don't require special finishes. Recommended.
